This is a recap on what to expect of a reiki attunement!
The attunement process in reiki is what allows a reiki practitioner, or Reiki Master, to essentially pass on the ability to "give" reiki energy healing to another person.
The attunement process helps to balance out the energy points across the body (or chakras), enhancing flow. Bringing balance to the luminous field or aura. You can read more about chakras HERE
Attunements are not done in reiki sessions, when a person is coming to receive reiki in a session. They are only done across the Dublin reiki classes. Level 1, 2 & 3 (reiki master teacher). Reiki master teacher training Dublin & certification with me.

The attunement process was first discovered by Master Mikao Usui in about 1910, when the wisdom of reiki was translated to him during a spiritual vigil atop a mountain in Japan. The traditional symbols of Usui reiki were passed on to him via his third eye chakra during a 21 day meditation.
Master Usui was shown the 4 traditional Usui symbols whilst he was in this transcendental state. These are the symbols passed down the Usui reiki lineage.
Other reiki symbols have been introduced over the last century since Usui's first introduction, as reiki spread globally and was adapted in different ways.
However, the 4 traditional Usui symbols have remained unchanged as powerful "keys" to access reiki healing energy. (Universal Life Force Energy/ Rei-Ki).
With that being said, universal life force energy can be accessed by people without the use of reiki symbols since connection to energy is available to all of us - all of the time!
We don't "need" reiki to connect to the world of energy. We can do that, for example, through prayer. Through connection with nature, through gratitude, through opening the heart chakra. Through raising our vibration to a place of light.
However, reiki is just one powerful way to connect powerfully & intentionally.
The symbols only "help" us to do what is already in our ability to do.
They are tools.
During the "attunement" process, a person receiving reiki will be passed on traditional Usui reiki symbols to hold within their luminous field or aura.
Rather like acupuncture without the needles, the reiki symbols work by positively changing the energy that flows through the chakra system.
By expanding the chakras, and opening those that are weaker in nature. (We all have chakras that are more open than others, this is natural) we bring balance. (You can read more about chakras on blogs covering the subject.
Most Important is the direct experience of an "attunement".
Often a person receiving an attunement may sleep very heavily and for longer than usual. They may also feel particularly energetic for several hours after the attunement, as reiki energy starts to shift throughout the body.
In addition, these energies "shifts" may also lead to changes within the physical body, and perceptions of the physical world. For example, appetites may change (an indication the sacral chakra has been opened). A person may crave a particular food. Taste in colors or design may change also (often a throat chakra opening). A person may feel a strong motivation to change jobs, to start a new hobby they have always been curious about (solar-plexus, throat chakra opening).
Or relationships that may be less healthy may end, giving room for new relationships (heart expansion).
As a final example, a person may have "otherworldly" experiences linked to the clares - have a calirvoyant experience, or have heightened intuition about a situation (third-eye, crown chakra opening).
