THE PLANETS

Introduction to the planets

The planets perform a unique energetic role in astrology and this role is adapted depending on the sign the planet operates through, as well as the house the planet resides in.

Each planet and the two luminaries of the solar system, sun & moon, exert their influence in one of the twelve houses of the horoscope. There can be more than one planet in a house or a house may even be empty, except for the sign of the house cusp.

Planets have more or less synergy with houses & signs, than others. So a planet can be beneficially or detrimentally positioned

Each planet can be in domicile, exaltation, detriment and fall in astrology depending on what sign they operate through, as well as what house they perform in.

However, as ever, a chart is read as a whole. An isolated placement does not alone tell us anything conclusive. Aspects made between dominant planets & signs allows your unique energetic influences to come to light powerfully. The work of the psychological astrologer is to find those important patterns & influences.

The personal planets are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars.

Uranus, Saturn. Jupiter & Pluto are important both on a personal level but have great impact also on the collective, effecting social & cultural evolution & creating global changes

In tropical Vedic astrology, planets can be either malefic or benefic or neutral. However,

this does not mean there are "good" or "bad planets".

The malefics (Sun, Mars, Saturn, Pluto) work well in certain tougher houses that have synergy with these planets. The benefics (Moon, Venus, Jupiter) will tend to have positive results in more harmonious, benefic houses. Neutral planets Mercury, Uranus, Jupiter can have good results in multiple positions. There are also houses that tend to benefit all the planets reasonably well. When a planet has synergy with sign & house there can be expected to be positive results, otherwise known as good dignity.
